Shuhei Yoshida On Why There Is Still No Remake Of Bloodborne

The industry veteran believes it's about the PlayStation team respecting Miyazaki-san's wish.

On January 15, the legendary Shuhei Yoshida left PlayStation after 31 years with the company. Yoshida plans to continue supporting independent developers, a role he has been dedicated to within Sony since 2019.

Bloodborne

To mark the occasion and discuss the PlayStation veteran's long career, Kinda Funny Games interviewed Yoshida and asked if players might ever see a remaster, remake, or even a patch for Bloodborne.

Yoshida confirmed that even while serving as the head of PlayStation's indie initiatives, he constantly heard from players about Bloodborne. However, he could only share his personal theory – obviously, he could not disclose any official secrets.

"People wonder why we haven’t really done anything. My theory is that because I remember Miyazaki-san really loved Bloodborne, what he created. I think he is interested, but he is so successful, and he is so busy, so he cannot do it himself. But he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. So that’s my theory. And the PlayStation team respects his wish. So that is my guess. I am not revealing any secret information."

Yoshida then noted that it is purely his speculation, as he wasn’t involved in any discussions about Bloodborne within Sony. He also shared that the Gravity Rush series might eventually return despite the closure of Japan Studio. Sony is open to licensing its smaller IPs to external developers, according to Yoshida.
