A tiny spoiler is included in the rating summary.
The much-anticipated remake of Silent Hill 2 has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), just 20 days after receiving a rating in Korea. This development could signify that the game's release date is fast approaching, although no official announcement has been made by the developer or publisher so far.
Twitter user Wario64 first spotted the ESRB rating and its description. The rating of M (Mature 17+) and the general description of "Blood and Gore, Language, Sexual Themes, Violence" suggest that the remake remains faithful to the original Silent Hill 2's overall tone.

The ESRB rating summary reveals some plot elements, adding more intrigue and a bit of a spoiler for Silent Hill fans eagerly awaiting the game. It reads:
"Cutscenes and illustrations depict further instances of violence and/or blood and gore: characters impaled; a character suffocated to death with a pillow; enemies with body parts sewn together."

Added to the scarce updates from the developers since October 2022 and their dissatisfaction with the publisher's trailer for not embodying the 'spirit of the game', this rating summary has sparked increased curiosity among players, generating more discussions on social media about its content.

It is a widely known fact that the ESRB rating process typically takes place before a game's launch to facilitate the display of the rating on the game's packaging and marketing materials. We have some handy examples here: Assassin's Creed Mirage got an ESRB rating in mid of July 2023 and officially launched on October 5 of the same year; Quake II Remastered got rated in Korea in June 2023 and released on August 10 of that year.
