The Sims 3 for Windows Gets Its First Patch in 9 Years

Fans expect more to come as the franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary in February.

The Sims 3 recently received its first patch since November 2015. What happened, and why did EA decide to revisit the game?

The dev team addressed an old issue that prevented the game from running on 12th-generation Intel CPUs and newer (spotted by X user Crosimmer). For now, the update is only available via the EA app, and it’s unclear whether it will be released on Steam, too.

Fans started suspecting something – is this just a coincidence, or is the team getting ready to celebrate the game's big date? With the franchise’s 25th anniversary in February, people speculate that The Sims 3 might receive more updates. However, EA has not even published a detailed patch note, so that's highly unlikely.

The Sims series and The Sims 4 remain one of EA’s flagship titles and one of the main sources of revenue generation for the company – even though the last part was released in the 2014 release. In 2024, the game attracted over 15 million new players. You can agree the number is huge for a 10-year-old game.
