Accurate 3D References for Anatomy Studies

Here are some anatomically-accurate references for aspiring Character Artists willing to learn more about creating realistic digital humans.

If you are a beginning 3D Character Artist willing to follow in the steps of Ian Spriggs and Hadi Karimi and focus on creating highly-realistic digital humans, one of the most important facets you must learn is, without a doubt, the realm of human anatomy.

While the importance of precise anatomical references can hardly be overestimated, finding a comprehensive source that would provide everything in one place might prove challenging. Luckily, one such source exists in the form of SciePro's library, a comprehensive and sizeable collection of physically-accurate 3D medical models created by the SciePro team using such programs as ZBrush, 3ds Max, Blender, and V-Ray.

According to the team, all of their assets are based on real-life 3D scans, MRIs, and photo libraries and are made in collaboration with actual doctors in order to make sure that the models are 100% correct. The models present in the library can be used as references and even purchased for more thorough studies. Today, to learn more about making realistic digital humans, let's have a look at some of the most recent 3D models shared by the SciePro team.

This detailed digital 3D model of the human muscles consists of over 500 individual meshes, all correctly named, and 123 textures at a resolution of 8192x8192px. According to the team, the model would be perfect for animation studios, app developers, illustrators, universities, and other businesses in need of high-quality muscle models.

This medically-accurate model features over 119 individual meshes, covering all lymphatic vessels and nodes from head to toe. As stated by the team, the model boasts a top-quality topology, with 99% of its overlapping and intersecting geometry having been eliminated for optimal precision.

This model includes a complete representation of the human heart, including coronary arteries and veins, as well as the conduction system, the layers of the pericardium, and the interior of the heart. The model comes with over 950 individual meshes and 24 high-resolution textures.

Created using the latest MRI/CT data, anatomy atlases, and real bones sourced from universities, this model represents a precise recreation of a human skeleton with all 206 of its bones having been correctly labeled. The model features over 276 meshes and 56 high-resolution 8192x8192px textures.

The model includes the complete nervous system, including the brain and brain interior anatomy, as well as the different meninges around the brain and spinal cord, and features over 830 individual meshes and 11 high-res textures.

This accurate heart model, featured earlier here on 80 Level, was created by a team of experts including artists, anatomists, cardiologists, and heart surgeons. The level of detail and accuracy in this model make it an essential tool for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of the human heart.
