Adobe Substance 3D Modeler Has Been Officially Released

The company's long-awaited modeling and sculpting software is now out of beta.

During the Adobe MAX 2022 conference, Adobe officially released Substance 3D Modeler 1.0, the company's long-awaited tool for digital modeling and sculpting, ending the software's open beta phase. First introduced back in late April, the software was developed by the Substance 3D team in collaboration with the creators of the VR sculpting tool Oculus Medium. The tool's most notable feature is that it allows 3D artists to sculpt and assemble their projects on both desktop and VR, changing the mode at any time.

The newly-released software brings a convenient sculpting toolset that would be all too familiar to hardened digital sculptors. Using the Clay, Erase, and Buildup tools, users will be able to add and remove 3D clay, Crease will help one to make carvings on the sculpt, and Warp and Elastic tools enable the users to modify the sculpt's shape by stretching it. Moreover, the 1.0 version of Modeler brings the Stamps system, first introduced earlier this month, that enables its users to add detail to a model by stamping its surface with a mesh.

Additionally, the tool supports all common interchange formats (USD, OBJ, FBX, GLB) for both import and export, and lets you output paint as textures with UVs or vertex colors.

If you are new to Substance 3D Modeler and would like to know where to start, we highly recommend checking out Adobe's recently-released tutorial series that describe the first steps of using the application in both VR and Desktop modes. You can access the VR playlist here and the Desktop playlist over here.

Substance 3D Modeler is only available via subscription for $49.99/month or $549.88/year. You can learn more and purchase the tool by visiting its official website. Can't wait until this becomes irrelevant by means of the Blender devs getting Sculpt/VR mode to have a similar UX.
