Last year, Amazon acquired the rights to Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 aiming to shoot movies and series in the universe. Together with Vertigo Entertainment (Doctor Sleep, Barbarian) and the former star of The Witcher and DC's Superman Henry Cavill, they wished to enter production, although it wasn't clear what exactly they were planning first.
Now, we finally have a glimpse of what's to come. Amazon has signed the full agreement with Games Workshop, and "the next stage can begin." The company is assembling "an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer," led by Cavill as the project's executive producer.
What is this project? Unfortunately, it's still a mystery: it could be a film or a series, Amazon hasn't revealed any details yet.
"Now comes the fun part: working out all the creative details with our partners and getting the first script written and into production. What Warhammer 40,000 stories should we tell first? Should we kick off with a movie or a TV show? Both?!"
So how long will we wait? The company warns fans that it's "not unusual for projects to take two to three years from this point before something arrives on screen." However, the production is now ready to move on, and Amazon promises updates as soon as it can provide them.
