Allegedly, the studio's upcoming "restructuring" won't affect MOUSE: P.I. for Hire's production pipeline.
PlaySide Studios, Australia's largest publicly listed video game developer and the publisher of Fumi Games' highly anticipated rubber hose FPS MOUSE: P.I. for Hire, has issued an official statement announcing the impending wave of layoffs within the company – primarily affecting the Work for Hire teams and non-project-specific workforce – put into motion by their restructuring effort.
According to PlaySide, the restructuring comes as a result of delays in securing Work for Hire contracts, leading to latent staff capacity. Beyond the immediate and most upsetting cost – an undisclosed number of developers becoming unemployed – the restructuring is expected to cost the company $1.5 million but is ultimately projected to generate annual cost savings of $4-5 million.
Despite the turmoil, PlaySide's fiscal year 2025 guidance, including projected revenue of $50-54 million, an EBITDA loss of $6-10 million, and a closing cash balance of $10-15 million, remains unchanged.
The studio has also emphasized that the restructuring should not impact its publishing partners or original IPs, meaning its Dumb Ways to Die console title, the Game of Thrones real-time strategy game, and the aforementioned MOUSE should remain unaffected. We have contacted Fumi Games for confirmation and will provide an update once the response is received.
