Concord is Still Under Active Development, SteamDB Data Suggests

The most disastrous AAA game of 2024 is not giving up that easily.

When Sony and Firewalk Studios officially shut down Concord a month ago, many understandably assumed that the game – widely regarded as the worst of 2024 and one of the most disappointing AAA projects of all time – was gone for good, perceiving the developer's talk of "exploring options" and "determining the best path ahead" as nothing more than a typical corporate statement, meant solely to appease the few thousand people who actually bought and played the infamous "$50-$400 million flop".

Mangalawyer

As hard as it may be to believe, given the game's disastrous reception, the small hint in the announcement suggesting the FPS's return appears to have been true, and Concord has indeed been slowly crawling its way back to the market. According to the latest findings on the game's SteamDB page, Concord has been receiving backend updates daily since September 29, with the latest changelist submitted on October 8 around 2 PM UTC.

While it's impossible to determine exactly what these changes involve or what aspects of the game Firewalk is working on, it's clear that the project, though officially retired, is not entirely dead and could one day make a comeback, hopefully as a free-to-play title that will have taken into account community feedback and revamped its uninspired gameplay, boring maps, and safe art design.

What do you think about Concord's possible comeback? Would you be willing to give it another chance? What should Firewalk focus on so as not to become a subject of industry-wide ridicule for the second time? Tell us in the comments!

Nobody wants this woke DEI garbage. It failed for a reason leave it dead where it belongs. Also take the rest the DEI hires and toss them in the trash with it.

I think there's a ton of talent in that title. Facial Animations were in my opinion among some of the best. But the character design, map design, gameplay loop was all off.

I think they should make better character build out, and decide if this is more of a arena/old school shooter rather than a hero title. They should make cool enemies and add horde mode, so you can try out new better designed characters.

I just dont think Sony is going to sink more money into this.

What a joke! There will be no come back for this DEI garbage. How much did they have to pay you for this puff piece? This is just lip service to the highest degree.

Ironic that people still use "woke" as an insult when inclusiveness is a good thing that's needed and makes things better for actually including people and not being hateful for no reason. I still don't get how people still don't understand how to be kind towards their fellow humans??️‍?

Concord was amazing and so much fun and I've been missing all of the characters and gameplay! Plus like another commenter said, paying upfront was a benefit and free to play is horrendous. Look at how Overwatch went into the dumps after being successful and a paid game and then hated for having microtransactions and battle passes. Paying $40 (not even a full price COD game or whatever) is SO much better. Helldivers 2 is also just $40 upfront and it's super successful. People hated on Concord for no reason honestly and it's incredibly fun and the characters were great despite what some bigots claimed. I've been waiting for the comeback of my baby though!❤️

You can't be serious! They barely made 2 weeks post launch on Playstation. Why in the world do they think that pc gamers would give them another chance after how hard it crashed and burned? Plus sony's not exactly in our good graces right now. I understand wanting to make that development cost back, but this game is well and truly dead..

Ofc they will salvage what they can and transform it into something different.  Map, physic most of codes are useable...but art designs, political message needs to gtfo! Out of touch developers gtfo! Basically most of  Sony exec. at this point gtfo!

I don't understand people's unwillingness to pay for a game. "Hopefully, as a free to play." Indeed.  The entire point was to buy a whole game and not get nickel and dimed through the free to play model.
