Kai "Kizzle" Mergener shared this fantastic artwork and a detailed tutorial on its creation.
Take a look at this fascinating obsidian material created by 3D Artist Kai "Kizzle" Mergener. The creator also shared a tutorial along with custom Grunge Textures.
The material was made with Substance 3D Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, and Octane Render. The artist crafted a magical-looking, mesmerizing representation of a pitch-black glass, masterfully recreating its unique properties. As shared by Kai Mergener, it was the first material added to his portfolio.
The tutorial, which is more than an hour in length, comprehensively covers the creation of obsidian's special nature. You will learn how to visualize its color, transparency, surface structure, inclusions, optical effects, and form. The artist also covers the process of rendering and refers to such details as creating the material's translucent edges and color varieties.
