Days Gone 2 Could Have Been Released a Month Ago, Jeff Ross Says

The former Bend Studio director claims that if a sequel to the game had been approved, it would have likely been launched last month.

Although the recent PlayStation Showcase had a few intriguing announcements and updates, including new trailers for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 and announcements of Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, Helldivers 2, and Phantom Blade Zero, some fans were a little disappointed by the absence of major Sony studios such as Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, and Bend Studio unveiling their new projects.

The former Bend Studio game director Jeff Ross, who was responsible for the PlayStation 4 exclusive Days Gone, also expressed disappointment with this year's showcase. Shortly after the event, Ross took to Twitter to share that PlayStation Showcase 2023 was only a disheartening reminder for him that his project, Days Gone 2, did not receive the green light from Sony.

According to Ross, if the sequel to the post-apocalyptic action adventure had been approved, it would have been slated for release in 2023.

"I get a little bummed out from these PlayStation Showcase shows because they only remind me we could of had Days Gone 2 out a month ago if we'd have just stuck to our guns," he wrote.

It's unclear whom Ross refers to as "we" in his comment as it seems that Sony was never supportive of a sequel. Ross and former Bend Studio developer John Garvin hinted at this last year in a video call with David Jaffe saying that Days Gone 2 was doomed from the start due to the original game's mediocre reviews.

Still, despite his evident desire to see Days Gone 2 come to life, Ross remains realistic. In response to fans' questions about whether there is still a possibility to revive the project, he stated that Sony lacks interest in it and that the chance of the situation changing any time soon is "one in a million."

Ross further mentioned that he is unable to disclose the specific plans Bend Studio had in mind for Days Gone 2. However, he expressed his desire to "double down on all the cool world systems to create some great emergent gameplay."

I believe this game wasn't very well marketed and the actual game name doesn't really stick out and it passed me by when it was released but I downloaded it when I bought a PS5 as it was one of the games in the free bundle, and I have to say it is easily one of the best games I have played.

If Sony were to release a sequel, I'd buy it 1st day of release.
