Developer Reimagines Celeste as a 3D Platformer in Unreal Engine

This amazing prototype shows how the legendary indie title could have looked had it been in 3D.

Celebrating the release of EXOK Games' Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, Indie Game Developer and the creator of Pseudoregalia, known online as rittzler, has unveiled a stunning game prototype that reimagines the original 2018 Celeste game as a 3D platformer.

In a short demo shared by rittzler over on Twitter, the developer provided a look at the prototype's 3D model of Celeste's main character Madeline, featuring awe-inspiring hair created using a trail controller in the Animation Blueprint that "follows your movement with a cascading delay", its impressive movement mechanics, such as climbing, jumps, crouches, and dashes, and stylized VFX that aim to reimagine those from the original game.

Set up in Unreal Engine using Blueprints, the prototype was created around a year ago to study the original game's movement mechanics. As noted by the developer, the project was conceived and made only as an experiment, not as a fully-fledged attempt to bring Celeste to 3D.

If the game's developers give the green light, rittzler is considering sharing the prototype's model and animations. However, it's unlikely that significant developments will unfold beyond this point. We highly encourage to you to follow the developer on Twitter so as not to miss any future updates.
