Dragon Age: Dreadwolf writers said that the upcoming title will be both rewarding for the fans with the knowledge of the series and new players who know nothing about the franchise.
BioWare has released an extensive community update dedicated to the work of writers and editors in the studio where, among others, the company shared a sneak peek at writing for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf as well as comments on the studio's approach to the game's story.
Speaking of writing for the next Dragon Age game, the developers noted that as it has been eight years since Dragon Age: Inquisition was released, so many players either never played a Dragon Age game at all or played it a really long time ago, probably as teens, so the studio decided to use a new approach to writing for the game.
The devs said that they want the new game to be rewarding for the fans with the knowledge of the series and its lore, however, at the same time, they will give new players an opportunity to get into the franchise and feel welcomed.
"Some fans haven’t spent time with Dragon Age since the 2014 release of Inquisition, while others have read every comic and story published since. Others never played a Dragon Age game at all and have no idea who the bald guy is (he’s Solas)," narrative editor Ryan Cormier added. "It’s a varied audience, and development for Dreadwolf has included conversations about how the team can simultaneously reward our returning fans and welcome new ones."
BioWare also published several pages from the Dreadwolf's codex that do not contain particularly significant details or spoilers. Still, they already provide a short glimpse at what the game is going to be like.
For instance, one page represents an excerpt from the diary of an unknown character who criticizes Brother Genitivi's work on the Grand Necropolis, a large mausoleum in Nevarra City. It is unclear from the community update who owns the diary, however, it seems that the game will reveal more details about Nevarra.
