It is trying to condense the experience down.
FromSoftware
FromSoftware announced Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone co-op spinoff with new gameplay elements set in the beloved universe, at The Game Awards 2024, and apparently, some players thought the studio was just trying to snatch a place in the popular multiplayer genre. However, the game director Junya Ishizaki, says it isn't true.
"The focus was condensing this experience down - the RPG elements, the exploration, the character building, and leveling," he told PCGamer. "We wanted that to feel like it was all coming together and culminating in a boss fight but in a more concentrated form."
FromSoftware thought the game needed new mechanics and elements, a "new sense of accomplishment that you wouldn't quite find with Elden Ring or our previous titles."
In Nightreign, you will have to outlast 3 day-and-night cycles as one of the 8 characters with unique abilities and Ultimates, "making split decisions about combat and exploration across changing maps to become strong enough to take down terrifying bosses at the end of each day," as explained by Pirat_Nation.
There will be no armor, but you'll get alternative skins, 3 Relic slots, and various weapons. While exploring, you'll be faced with randomized events and enemies, and together, all of this makes Nightreign different from the original Elden Ring experience.
"We've never really held the stance 'let's absolutely not do anything that other companies are doing or not follow any trends.' So we didn't really see this as chasing a trend, but we saw these as interesting elements that could work well within our multiplayer-focused session-based gameplay."
The game should be released for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2025.
