MiSide: An Indie Psychological Horror Game with a Cute Anime Art Style

MiSide had won more than 40k positive reviews on Steam within 20 days of its launch.

The last month of 2024 has seen the debut of an unexpectedly successful indie game. MiSide's combination of psychological horror and cute anime-style graphics is enough to pique our interest in the beginning.

The major attraction of the game is its story side. "Let's imagine that you have a game in which you care for a character. But could you imagine one day getting into that game yourself?" Mita, the girl you take care of every day by involving some mini-games, offering her food, helping her do the chores, and sending her gifts, has hoped you would be together with her in the sweet home all the time. Everything is the first person to make it immersive, so when you look at her innocent face, it's like you are talking with her in person.

However, the girl has been too desperate to stay with you and has become a bit controlling. It is easy to join her, but not easy to leave. "Why does it feel like you are so eager to go back? Don't you love me anymore? Why are you leaving? Why are you leaving? Why are you leaving? Why are you leaving!" Judging from the trailer, she wants to keep you stay by all means.

She could put you in a dreamcore-style environment where you'll encounter some annoying creatures and maybe even jump scare; there are some mini-games inside of the game, which are easy and relaxing to play and make you forget that this is a horror title.

The Steam page doesn't provide much information about gameplay, but some players who finished a playthrough said the less you know the game, the better you'll enjoy it.

"Want to highlight an 'horror' part of the game. Imo, its how horror games should've been made nowdays, because now they're just jumpscare and creepy ambient compilation. This one is about atmosphere, plot and making u feel uncomfortable at certain moments," player mogan commented.

Buying a game at full price with zero discount and without trying out the demo could be one of the riskiest things I'd do. But with this amount of positive feedback — 98 % of the 41k reviews — within only 20 days of its launch, I bet I will not regret making this investment.

If you're curious about this indie horror that some believe should be nominated at TGA if it was released earlier, don't hesitate to download its demo on Steam. Developer AIHASTO also added a photo mode in the latest update so players can pause the game anytime to take a photo with Mita.
