I love the constant work Larian does for Baldur's Gate 3, don't get me wrong, but it's devastating to see your favorite fancy outfits and convenient scripts disappear with a new patch. Thankfully, the company is already working on mod support, according to Larian's director of publishing Michael Douse.
The studio has a "robust, cross-platform plan" for mod support, and we should see its fruit later this year. "We have a system but it needs to be tested and still requires work. We’re excited about it."
It seems like the recent Patch 6 caused some issues with mods, and Larian feels the frustration and is willing to alleviate some of this inconvenience. "We want to make this right," shared Larian's senior community strategist, WombatMedic, on Discord (via Eurogamer).
"We want the very best for you, which includes establishing a pipeline that lets mod authors release their mods across different platforms. Together with the platform holders, we are working on making this a reality, and are forming a team to support mod curation."
Modding support is going to come for "things like classes, UI, customisation, spells, and certain assets and game mechanics." We should see its "initial stages" in the next big patch, which will be live in a few months. Moreover, Larian is planning to reach out to popular mod authors so they can work together.
