Phantom Liberty Will Not Feature New Romances

However, existing romantic relationships might be extended.

The upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, will not feature new romances, CD PROJEKT RED revealed. However, the team might expand some existing relationships in the DLC.

The fact that new romances won't be a part of Phantom Liberty was revealed by CDPR's global community director Marcin Momot. In response to fans on Twitter, Momot clarified that while the DLC will introduce numerous additions to the game, it will not include any new love stories featuring new characters.

"While we'll add/change TONS of new stuff to the game along with the release of Phantom Liberty (as you noted in the tweet above), romances are not going to be part of that," he wrote. "V's going to be focused on the intrigue they got themselves into."

Still, in a recent interview with Kotaku, Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Pawel Sasko and quest designer Despoina Anetaki hinted that Phantom Liberty would likely delve deeper into the existing relationships within the game.

"There will be some [romantic] content, but for the most part, it is a spy thriller," Anetaki explained. "V’s attention is in Dogtown because there is this whole thing about saving yourself through the storyline, but there will be some content like that."

"So we have included some connections in places where it made sense between the main game and expansion, but I don’t wanna go into detail," Sasko added. "We tried to make it good. This is always our idea, you know, to just like, take care of the players that [enjoy those relationships]."

While the developers refrained from providing specific details, Kotaku suggested that V's romantic interests might receive extra dialogue, similar to how it was implemented in the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3.

Most recently, Phantom Liberty received a new gameplay trailer providing a glimpse at the expansion's Dogtown location and its inhabitants and shedding light on the story of the expansion.

The DLC will be available on September 26 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
