Pixel Art Action FPS CRUEL Gets a New High-Octane Teaser

The developer aims to ship the game this September.

After several months of relative radio silence, Indie Game Developer James Dornan has taken to Twitter once again to provide a much-anticipated update on CRUEL, a fast-paced, run-and-gun horror FPS with roguelike elements and charming, retro-style pixel art graphics.

Powered by Godot, CRUEL is set in an apocalyptic world where a particular soft drink has turned most people into "jibbering wretches", with you playing as one of the last survivors tasked to recover the soda's recipe from the ruins of an abandoned hotel protected by an evil cult.

With an arsenal of powerful guns, melee weapons, and a trusty kick at your disposal, your mission is to shoot, kick, and slide your way through a series of challenging floors, having the ability to upgrade your boomsticks and cutlery at the end of each level. The game heavily encourages high-octane gameplay, giving you limited time to complete each floor.

With the latest demo, James showcased several new features added recently to CRUEL, namely a new flying enemy, traps that add some extra challenge to navigating levels, and, most importantly, the ability to fart. The developer pointed out that the latter feature was added as an optional perk, so those who don't find flatulence funny (when clearly it is) can choose to skip it.

Additionally, the creator revealed the planned release window for CRUEL, stating that if nothing goes wrong, the game will hit the shelves this September. You can learn more and wishlist the game by clicking this link.
