Substance 3D Add-On for Blender Now Supports Blender 4.0

Adobe's Substance 3D add-on 2.0 marks a transformative update, including refactored architecture and compatibility with Blender 4.0.

Initially released in beta in 2021, Adobe's Substance 3D add-on for Blender allows artists to use their custom Substance .sbsar format materials in Blender.

With this plug-in, you can either use the Substance 3D presets or tweak materials directly in Blender by adjusting the parameters. The plug-in also makes the workflow easier for users by enabling the use of stock materials from online libraries like Adobe's Substance 3D Assets.

A new version appears to be a significantly upgraded and reimagined one that focuses on seamless integration and enhanced performance. It includes engine selection support with GPU being the default, new image formats to export the textures, support for value and string outputs, various Integration Tools add-on bug fixes, and overall performance improvement.

However, the main feature and the highlight of the update is broader compatibility, with Substance 3D add-on finally supporting Blender 4.0, the latest version of the software, as well as other Blender versions 3.0 and above.

Adobe emphasizes that the new Substance 3D add-on 2.0 is also a flexible foundation for future expansions, "catering to the evolving needs of 3D professionals".
