Taival: An Upcoming Co-Op Open-World RPG Where Minecraft Meets Trove

In this charming voxel-style blocky journey, you'll be accompanied by a sidekick capable of shapeshifting.

Finland-based indie developer Bonobo Software has unveiled the pre-alpha overview footage for their upcoming co-op adventure RPG, Taival.

The title, Taival, means Journey in Finnish. Taival offers all the key essentials of role-playing games: combat, quests, storyline, loot, exploration, and more. In this charming voxel-style blocky journey, you'll be accompanied by a sidekick named Henki, who is capable of shapeshifting into any creature that you've met, be it a spider, snail, or yak. Both you and the companion will grow and progress to access new abilities and features via skill trees.

There will be a colorful, hand-crafted world to explore, filled with various seamlessly connected areas where you'll encounter different inhabitants in unique environments. The magical home is like a base; it can be upgraded and customized and placed in the world.

There are unusual weapons, creatures, and potions waiting to be discovered as you walk around. The quest choices you or your friends in multiplayer mode will affect the narratives. Speaking of playing with friends, the game offers split-screen and online co-op modes, so you can either play together on the same console, share the screen, or connect with friends from different locations through online mode.

Through this split-screen gameplay footage, we can see what the game looks like when three players play the game simultaneously:

What's not mentioned on the game's Steam page but shows up in the trailer is a fishing function, which could possibly be a mini event where you can engage and get some nice items. As the game is still in early development, more new features might be added later.

Taival does not have a release date yet, but if you're interested in learning and following its development, we recommend you add the game to your wishlist on Steam and follow the developer on Twitter. The project is also on Patreon, so if you'd like to support its development, don't hesitate to check it out.
