Powered by Houdini and Unreal, the setup can generate roots that grow along surfaces and bounce off objects.
Samirah Evers, a Technical Artist at PUBG Amsterdam and former Tech Artist at Remedy, has recently revisited one of her earlier projects, showcasing an impressive procedural generator designed to quickly and easily create intertwined tree roots.
According to Samirah, the tool was built to generate roots that crawl along surfaces and react to surrounding objects, enabling them to move freely and adapt to their environment. To set it up, she used Houdini Engine in combination with Unreal Engine's Editor Utility Widgets. At this time, it's unclear whether the tool will be made commercially available, but we've reached out to the creator for clarification and will update the piece once we receive a response.
In the meantime, we highly recommend visiting Samirah's LinkedIn page to see more of her projects.
