Techland is Developing AAA Open-World Fantasy Action RPG

The studio is working with former CD Projekt RED staff.

Dying Light developer Techland announced it is working on a new AAA open-world action RPG set in a fantasy world with former CD Projekt RED developers.

"We’re very happy with what we have accomplished with the Dying Light franchise so far," said Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka. "Moreover, our journey with Dying Light 2 Stay Human has only just begun as we plan to support this game for at least five years, with its scope and size matching, if not exceeding, what we have provided our community with during post-launch support for its predecessor."

It seems that the company wants to make something a bit different this time:

"At the same time, our ambition is to introduce a brand new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years. We want to create a fully next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity."

The team working on the new title includes several former CD Projekt Red staff, such as open world director Bartosz Ochman (Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), narrative director Karolina Stachyra (The Witcher 2, The Witcher 3), narrative lead Arkadiusz Borowik (Witcher 2, Witcher 3), creative director Mario Maltezos (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Mad Max), lead game designer David McClure (Deathloop) and lead animator Kevin Quaid (Horizon Zero Dawn).

In case you missed the news, Lead Designer at Techland Tymon Smektala has recently joined Kirill Tokarev at 80 Level Round Table to tell us about the life and culture of the studio, discuss the tools Techlannd uses to create massive open-world environments, and share some behind-the-scenes information about the studio’s recently-released Dying Light 2 Stay Human

Techland can't share more details about the project now but it's "truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right."

Let's hope this time comes soon. For now, the company is hiring for various positions.
