The Witcher 3 Co-Director Forms a New Game Studio

The team will focus on developing "highly-refined games that evoke emotion, emphasize storytelling, and showcase exquisite craftsmanship".

Ex-Design Director at CD Project Red Mateusz Kanik, who left the studio back in early 2022, alongside Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow, former Executive Producers on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as a group of other CDPR veterans, have announced the establishment of a new game development studio named Blank.

Aiming to develop "highly-refined games that evoke emotion, emphasize storytelling, and showcase exquisite craftsmanship", the new studio plans to work on a character-driven apocalyptic story "with a twist or two".

According to the studio's official website, Kanik will serve as the Game Director, Mróz and Jefimow will assume the roles of Executive Producers, Mikołaj Marchewka, also a Co-Founder of Blank., will be the project's Managing Director, Michał Dobrowolski and Artur Ganszyniec, two former CDPR developers, will work on the game as Design Director and Narrative Director respectively, and Grzegorz Przybyś will be the game's Art Director.

"As game developers we embrace the courage to create something fresh and bold, steering clear of mere replicas of existing games," reads the studio's official statement. "While the industry often promotes the notion that bigger is better, we direct our focus towards highly refined games that evoke emotion, emphasize storytelling, and showcase exquisite craftsmanship. Our endeavor is ambitious, perhaps rebellious and surely there will be challenging moments along the way. What we vowed to ourselves, we now promise to all gamers: we will be relentless in our pursuit to deliver you games of the utmost polish and refinement upon their release. This is who we are. We are BLANK."
