This Powerful Retopology Tool For 3D Art Gets A Major Update

TopoGun 3 is out of beta adding new tools for manual and automatic retopology.

Pixelmachine has announced the official launch TopoGun 3, a major update that was in beta for three years. The latest version of the toolkit has new tools for manual retopology and some automatic tools, including a powerful new Patch tool.

Among other things, the latest edition of TopoGun allows artists to bake a wider range of texture maps from high-resolution meshes. To get started you can import files in FBX and OBJ formats. Artists can set up a new topology by using the Guide Lines tool to draw strokes on the reference mesh to define the overall edge flow.

In the process, you can tweak your topology by using different tools to set up vertices manually and also move or relax larger selections of vertices. The toolkit also comes with a Mask tool letting you define specific regions without modifying others.

The major update adds Slice and Cut, plus Circle and Shell, tools that can be used for different types of meshes. The latest version also comes with automatic retopology features to streamline your process.

What is more, TopoGun lets you recover all the details the original mesh has – you can use the Subdivision feature. There's also the Morpher feature used to update the retopologized mesh when the reference mesh is modified.

The latest edition is available for Windows and macOS – licenses are cross-platform so if you buy one, you can install the tool on any of these operating systems. Node-locked licenses cost $149.99 and floating licenses cost $349.99. Learn more here.
