Ubisoft Announces Assassin's Creed Mirage

Ubisoft officially announced the next installment in the series, Assassin's Creed Mirage, probably earlier than it had intended.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the next installment in the Assassin's Creed series will be Assassin's Creed Mirage, the project that was previously codenamed Rift which takes place in 9th century Baghdad and is a follow-up game to the last mainline title in the series, Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

The new game is supposedly revealed a little earlier than originally planned as it was announced the next morning after some leaked images appeared online.

On September 1, a tweet from Assassin's Creed fan website The Codex Network (which have now been deleted due to a copyright claim) shared artwork of the new assassin equipped with a short sword and the iconic hidden blade weapon. One version of the artwork teases "The Forty Thieves Quest" referring to the Middle East tale from the One Thousand and One Nights, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

The leaked image has a similar style that Ubisoft previously used in the artworks advertising DLCs in other Assassin's Creed games, so it might point out that it is tied to some add-on content to the game. The assassin on the image is apparently a Valhalla supporting character, Basim Ibn Ishaq, which goes in line with previous rumors that the character would be the protagonist of an expansion that turned into a standalone game.

While many think that the artwork was accidentally leaked by Ubisoft itself, via the Ubisoft store, some suggest that it may have been done by some external party. Either way, the company now issues takedown notices and removes the leaked images from the net as fast as it can.

Ubisoft didn't provide any details on the upcoming game in its post but said that it "can't wait to tell you more" about it during its game showcase event, Ubisoft Forward, which will take place on September 10.
