An Artist Unveils a Series of Concepts For What Might Be a Canceled Red Faction Game

Presumably, the concepts were created for the now-closed Volition Games' new project.

Last week, Senior Concept Artist at Deep Silver JC Jongwon Park unveiled a series of concepts over on ArtStation, drawing the attention of Red Faction fans worldwide. Referred to as "Project Untitled" by the artist, these 2D concepts portray various scenes, with one featuring what seems to be the iconic Red Faction logo – a hand holding a pickaxe/hammer. When a commenter pointed out this resemblance, the artist liked the comment, implying that the inclusion of the logo was not coincidental.

With the apparent confirmation of a connection between "Project Untitled" and Red Faction, the community has started to speculate about the potential existence of a new game. While some enthusiasts optimistically interpreted the art reveal as confirmation of ongoing game development, others are speculating that the mere fact that the concepts were unveiled means that the game was canceled.

Unfortunately, it seems that the latter is more likely to be the case, considering that Volition Games, the studio behind Red Faction, was closed in late August 2023 after a lengthy 30-year run as part of Embracer Group's restructuring campaign. Currently, it seems highly improbable that the development of a new Red Faction game is a top priority for Embracer.
