Kei Yoneoka shared some CGI magic created with Houdini and 3ds Max.
StealthWorks' Kei Yoneoka, with an extensive portfolio in both live-action and 2D films like Shin Godzilla, Suzume, and Weathering with You, shared a reel for the historical fantasy film The Yin Yang Master Zero, known as Onmyoji 0 in Japan. The film's rich visual effects, which helped bring its epic world to life, were created in collaboration with Shirogumi, one of the largest CG and VFX production studios in Japan.
As the artist shared, the water simulation in the film was done in Houdini, while the rest of the rendering was handled in 3ds Max. In a recent interview with Foundry, Shirogumi also discussed implementing Katana for its shareability and ease of learning, which significantly reduced staff effort. The flexibility of Katana proved especially crucial in the Water Clock Room scene in Onmyoji 0, with its large number of cuts, need for iteration, and varying lighting requirements for each shot.
