Captivating 3D Terrarium Scene in Blender & Unreal Engine 5

The author employed UE5's Niagara Fluids to create the mist effect.

Check out Aqueous Eden: Life Beneath the Mist, an outstanding 3D scene picturing a piece of living, breathing jungle forest captured inside a lifelike terrarium, made by Vegetation Artist at Epic Games, Muhammad Awais Azhar.

To create this scene, the artist utilized an assortment of Megascans assets, Blender, which was used to simulate the water and model realistic moss cards, a lizard model from DigitalLife3D, and Unreal Engine 5, along with its Lumen and Nanite tools and Niagara Fluids, the latter of which was employed to set up the fog effect.

"One of the biggest challenges was making sure the scale felt accurate to a terrarium environment, so I worked carefully with asset scaling to get the right miniature effect," commented Muhammad. "It was also a bit hard to create a believable layout of assets for the terrarium – getting that natural, organic feel while keeping it visually pleasing was tricky!"

Back in 2022, Muhammad also joined 80 Level to show us the workflow behind the Old Plant Pots project, provide some tips on capturing data for photogrammetry projects, and discuss bringing objects scanned with RealityCapture to 3D. You can check out the full interview by clicking this link.
