Crysis 4 Development Will Be Led by Hitman 3 Director Mattias Engström

The team on Crysis 4 is starting to shape up with Mattias Engström joining the studio as a game director and Crytek seeking staff for the development of this new chapter.

The news that the fourth installment in the Crysis series is in the works was announced a few months ago, although nothing, apart from the fact of its existence, has been known of the game since then. And now via the official Crysis Twitter account, Crytek revealed that Mattias Engström has joined the studio to lead the development of Crysis 4.

In an official statement, Crytek wrote: "We are happy to announce that Mattias Engstrom, known for his work as Game Director for Hitman 3 at IO Interactive, joins the Crytek family as Game Director for the 4th installment in the Crysis franchise, starting this week."

The developer joined the studio in early May. Before that, for seven years, he worked at the Danish studio IO Interactive where he served as a level designer on both Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 as well as head of development for Hitman 3. Prior to it, he served as a level designer at Ubisoft, working on Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed Revelations.

Crysis 4 is still at an early stage of development and therefore is not expected to be released anytime soon. According to the update to the same news on Twitter, the team that will be working on the game is currently shaping up as Crytek highlighted that it's hiring staff for the development of this new installment – at present, the team is looking for almost thirty professionals who can join the team, ranging from art director and lighting artist to development director, and more.

Crytek announced the start of the development of Crysis 4 at the end of January 2022. The studio only showed a short teaser, without revealing any details about the game. It is still unknown when and on what platforms the shooter will be released.
