Gabe Newell's Neural Interface Company Updated Its Website

Gabe Newell, the creator of Valve, has been absent from the media field for a while. In November, he was invited to testify in an antitrust lawsuit between Wolfire Games and Valve. Newell asked to participate online, concerned about COVID-19, so perhaps he is still staying indoors for extra protection.

However, he is not idle in his seclusion. It was noticed that Starfish, a neural interface company co-founded by Newell, updated its website, so the team seems to be working hard on its brain-computer solutions.

Many X/Twitter users immediately noted that he'd lost some weight and looks healthier now. Newell is collaborating with Alan Yates, Valve's former hardware engineer, and a group of scientists, including neuroengineers and a physicist.

Starfish is developing "minimally invasive" one-dimensional implants for neuromodulation and neural recording as well as utilizing advanced Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

Newell's interest in this field is not new: in 2021, he brought up the idea of brain-computer interfaces for gaming. Valve was working with OpenBCI headsets to generate open-source software then, allowing developers to understand the signals coming from people’s brains.
