Another dimension would be nice for immersion.

You can't call yourself a true CRPG fan without playing staples of the genre like Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder, and Baldur's Gate. With BG3 becoming Game of the Year and capturing millions of fans, players can't help but wonder what other developers would take from the game.
During his recent Q&A session, Obsidian's Design Director Josh Sawyer answered this question, saying that he appreciated movement in Baldur's Gate 3 and would like to add another dimension to a "Pillars-y" game.
"The jumping, the ability to fly – basically to move through the terrain with more than just walking around. … The player has a lot more options for how to approach situations and solve problems. [You can] give the player tools that augment those things. Those are really fun things in tabletop, and to see them represented in a CRPG is very cool."
He also mentioned the dynamic world of BG3: things can get wet or be set on fire, you can pick up many objects, move them around, or just break through anything. Pillars' mostly 2D world makes it "a lot more difficult" to incorporate similar features, "but even in a 3D world, it's not easy." Larian developers were "building on their success with Original Sin 2, which is very cool."
Earlier, Sawyer said he'd make Pillars of Eternity 3 if he had the budget Baldur's Gate 3 received. So maybe one day we'll get another great CRPG.
