Epic Games has shared a new 5-part series of guides to help developers and artists transition from Unity to Unreal.
If you, like many others, aren't particularly satisfied with the direction Unity Technologies has been going lately and would like to transition from Unity to some other engine, be sure to check out Switching to Unreal, a new five-part tutorial series released by Epic Games in collaboration with Enduring Games.
As the name suggests, the series is designed to help game developers and artists transition from Unity to Unreal Engine. Over the course of five episodes, the Enduring Games team shares general best practices for making the switch, compares Unity's visual scripting to Unreal Engine's Blueprint system, explains how to move from C# in Unity to C++ in Unreal, explores the tools available for garbage collection in Unreal Engine and how to optimize your workflows, and highlights the strengths of both Blueprints and C++.
The final episode dives deep into how C++ and Blueprints work together to form the foundation of Unreal Engine's Gameplay Framework and provides an overview of the core plugins and tools used to build gameplay in Unreal Engine, including the Gameplay Ability System, Gameplay State Trees, Enhanced Input, Data Drivers, and others.
