3D Generalist Albin Merle has recently showcased an absolutely jaw-dropping animation that looks incredibly similar to a stop-motion timelapse but actually isn't and is entirely 3D.
Created as an experiment, the sequence employs a procedural setup to automatically animate both hands of the animator onto the Nutcracker. The dance motion capture file was obtained from Mixamo, retargeted in Blender onto the Nutcracker, and then stepped interpolated to achieve the stop-motion appearance. According to the author, he used Blender for modeling, retargeting, and rigging, Substance 3D Painter for texturing, and Cycles for rendering.
