Ubisoft Promises Several Assassin's Creed Remakes

"We're going to surprise people, I think."

Ubisoft usually has a variety of different titles to offer, but Assassin's Creed is arguably the most beloved of them all. With Shadows and Hexe coming one day soon, the studio is not going to let the older games in the franchise go.

Talking about the future of the series, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot said we should expect remakes of Assassin's Creed games:

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

He then added that Ubisoft wants to release AC titles more regularly, and new games, not remakes, will offer "plenty of experience variety." Hexe, for example, is going to be "a very different game" from Assassin's Creed Shadows, according to Guillemot: "We're going to surprise people, I think."

I'm sure a lot of players would love to see an Assassin's Creed 2 remake; also, rumors of a new Black Flag have been around for a long time. However, Ubisoft is not known for luck in this area. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has been dragging its feet for years now and was reportedly started from scratch at some point. Then there is Splinter Cell, another exciting reboot in the making, but still kind of hanging without much information.

I suppose the number of projects Ubisoft is working on and its general approach attracts a lot of negative attention. Guillemot said that he's concerned about "the malicious and personal online attacks that have been directed at some of our team members and partners."

Hopefully, the Assassin's Creed remakes will not fuel the fire even more.
