Mesmerizing.
No, this isn't an old photo or a painting – this is Kestutis Rinkevicius's latest 3D portrait of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, a famous Lithuanian composer, painter, and cultural figure.
Čiurlionis was born 150 years ago, and to commemorate this date, Rinkevicius used ZBrush for sculpting, Houdini for hair and grooming, Substance 3D Painter, Blender, RizomUV, and Unreal Engine 5.
"This project was quite a challenge because there are only a handful of small low-quality images remaining as reference. I made everything in Unreal Engine 5 using MetaHuman topology and setup, so maybe in the future, I’ll find some time to set it up and animate."
We will also see more historical portraits from the artist using his custom hair and cloth shader. Meanwhile, check out his other works, like Nosferatu and this beautiful queen, on ArtStation.
