Pro Tip: How to Create a Worn Leather Material in Substance 3D Painter

Cohen Brawley has shared a new short tutorial showing how to set up a smart material that can be used on virtually any 3D asset.

3D Artist and Art Lead Cohen Brawley continues his series of AAA Game Dev Pro Tips with a new one-minute tutorial demonstrating how to create an appealing worn leather smart material using Substance 3D Painter in mere minutes.

Comprising just five easy steps, Cohen's workflow involves creating and tweaking a fill layer with a black mask applied, adding another fill layer to apply dirt in the crevices of the wear, applying a tiling raw leather texture to the Color and Roughness channels of the main fill layer, enhancing the material by creating an additional fill layer up top and retrieving the anchorpoint information from it, and finally adding another fill layer with a bright diffuse and height properties with a black mask applied to it. According to the author, this smart material can be used on virtually any 3D asset. You can watch the full tutorial attached above or by clicking this link.
