This Steam Deck 3D Model Looks So Real, Creator Had to Clarify It's Not a Reference

Made by Ramiz Asadullaev using Plasticity, Substance 3D Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag.

Take a look at this photorealistic 3D recreation of the Steam Deck handheld console, showcased recently by 3D Artist Ramiz Asadullaev.

Aiming to sharpen and refine his skills in Plasticity using a new pipeline, Ramiz used Nick Kallen's "CAD for artists" to model the asset, Blender Bridge for export, Maya and RizomUV for retopology and UVs, respectively, Substance 3D Painter for texturing, and Marmoset Toolbag for rendering. The broken screen texture was sourced from Reddit.

The project's main focus, the artist notes, was achieving smooth shapes in the low-poly model. To do this, he added a few extra loops for better close-up detail, which can be easily removed if needed without affecting overall quality. The final result turned out so exceptionally well, Ramiz had to specifically clarify that one of the renders, attached below, was just that – a render – and not a reference photo:
