This CG Artist Recreated The Queen's Gambit's Protagonist in 3D

Made without store-bought scans using ZBrush, Maya, and Substance 3D Painter.

Lead 3D Character Artist Alexandre Mougenot has recently paid tribute to Netflix's acclaimed The Queen's Gambit miniseries with an impressive 3D rendition of the show's protagonist, Beth Harmon, portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy.

According to the project's description, the portrait was inspired by the artist's personal fondness for the show and Taylor-Joy's distinctive, captivating appearance, which made the creative process "a great exercise". In terms of software, Alexandre revealed that the model was created using ZBrush, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Houdini, and Arnold, emphasizing that no store-bought assets were used in the making of the project.

"I found Anya Taylor Joy's arresting look a great exercise because it's so atypical," commented the creator."I did my best to transcribe it because likenesses are very difficult, especially when you want to get close to a photo without the camera indications used by Netflix to make the reference image."
