Apple Reportedly Plans to Introduce New MacBooks at WWDC

Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June will reportedly not only unveil their highly anticipated mixed-reality headset but also other hardware launches. According to a recent report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, these launches may include new MacBooks and a significant update to the watchOS software for the Apple Watch.

Apple's rumored AR/VR headset, reportedly titled "Reality Pro", is expected to take center stage at the upcoming event. This device represents a major shift for the company, marking its first significant foray into a new product category in nearly ten years. The headset will operate on the new xrOS operating system, and Apple plans to leverage the WWDC keynote to rally developers to create software for the device.

According to a January report by Bloomberg, the device is expected to feature hand-tracking, eye-tracking, digital avatar support in FaceTime calls, and a digital crown enabling users to switch between AR and VR modes. The headset is set to offer users up to two hours of battery life via a tethered battery pack that can be conveniently placed in their pocket and is anticipated to carry a hefty price tag of around $3,000.

Apart from the mixed-reality headset, Apple also reportedly has a number of new Mac models in the pipeline, including a 15-inch MacBook Air, an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, an entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro, a refreshed 24-inch iMac, and updated high-end MacBook Pro models. However, Gurman's report is silent on any details regarding these products.

Additionally, the company plans to release its first Mac Pro with in-house chips. Gurman claims that all of these devices are set to hit the market either this year or in early 2024. Two follow-up models to the Mac Studio are also reportedly in development, although their release timeline remains uncertain.

While WWDC typically focuses on software updates, this year's event may not see many major changes to the operating systems. However, Gurman suggests that watchOS will receive a significant update with a redesigned interface. On the iOS front, the company is reportedly working to enable sideloading to comply with upcoming EU legislation, but no major updates are expected for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, or tvOS this year. 

Apple is also expected to announce the latest version of macOS, version 14. However, Gurman predicts that the update will not include any significant changes.
