It all comes down to Microsoft's big workforce reduction.

According to recent reports, Bethesda's French subsidiary, which has existed for 12 years, has apparently closed down. While Bethesda hasn't officially provided any statements regarding the shutdown, a few former employees have taken to social media to discuss it.

One community manager shared that the reason behind the closure of Bethesda French might be Microsoft's widespread layoffs, affecting Bethesda as a subsidiary.

"Mass layoffs at Microsoft, globally," wrote a former employee.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that there would be a workforce reduction affecting almost 2,000 employees all over the world. It seems that Bethesda was one of the studios falling victim to the tech giant.

Established in 2012, Bethesda France was primarily engaged in marketing, community engagement, and event organization. Former staff members estimate that the unit employed around 15 people.
