Ex-Blizzard Artist's Studio Announces New Sci-Fi TPS RPG

Take this captivating 5-minute cinematic trailer as an appetizer.

Imagendary Studios, founded by the esteemed former Blizzard artist Wei Wang, has unveiled Astropulse: Reincarnation. This new solo, sci-fi third-person shooter/RPG is set in a war-ravaged future Earth and aspires to be a key component of a larger cross-media universe.

First announced on IGN, the developers have provided a glimpse into the compelling backstory of Astropulse:

"Astropulse is a sprawling sci-fi saga that traces the billion-year influence of a mysterious cosmic energy known as Astropulse. This energy arrived on Earth via a meteorite about 250 million years ago, drastically altering Earth's biological evolution and igniting a global catastrophe that reshaped human civilization. New species and civilizations rise in this fractured world, locked in a struggle for survival against ancient entities. In this post-apocalyptic setting, a young man and his steadfast companions set off on a journey to overturn their seemingly predestined tragic fate."

As introduced on its LinkedIn page, Imagendary Studios is "a cross-media creative studio devoted to the development of premium quality entertainment experiences". It was founded by former Blizzard artist Wei Wang in 2020 and was acquired by FunPlus in April 2021.

Amidst the ongoing turbulence in the gaming industry, the studio had to lay off staff last year. Wang referenced this in his most recent post on LinkedIn:

"Due to a myriad of factors and industry challenges, some of our team members unfortunately can't continue with us. We've had to make some tough choices and are now facing the ensuing challenges with fortitude. Just as the narratives and characters we craft, we plan to muster all our courage to embark on a new journey and keep pressing forward, whether in times of ease or adversity. We remain committed to crafting our stories and sharing them with the world across multiple cross-media platforms."

The game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. As mentioned in IGN's article, the studio also intends to expand the Astropulse universe with short films, comic books, and graphic novels. More information will be revealed as the development process continues.
