In-Depth Tutorial: Switching to Maya for Game Artists

FastTrack Tutorials with Emiel Sleegers has prepared a new extended course that covers how to quickly get started with using Maya.

In this course, you will learn how to quickly get started with using Maya when you already have basic experience in any other 3d modeling package like Blender or 3DS Max.

This tutorial has 5.5 hours of content and is split into 2 parts. The first part will be a collection of short easy to understand chapters that will just cover individual tools. In the second part, you will take everything you have learned and combine it all together to create a quick model of some gears.

The mentor of the course notes that this game art tutorial is perfect for students who have some familiarity with a 3d Modeling tool like Blender or 3DS Max and want to learn Maya.

The course is prepared and mentored by Emiel Sleegers, a Senior Environment Artist and owner of FastTrack Tutorials. He’s worked on games like The Division 2 + DLC at Ubisoft, Forza Horizon 3 at Playground Games, and as a Freelancer on multiple projects as an Environment Artist and Material Artist.

There’s a total of 34 videos split into short easy-to-digest chapters. All the videos have logical naming and are numbered to make it easy to find exactly the ones you want to follow. Subtitles are offered for this tutorial in English, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese.

The first part of the course includes 28 chapters, from Primitive Shapes, Exporting and importing, Adding geometry, cutting, loops, till Retopology and Quick Optimization, Weighted Normals and Smoothing Groups, Creating a high poly model, UV Unwrapping, Spline Modeling, Booleans, Material Creation, Attaching and detaching, Additional Tools and Techniques.

The second part of the course is a practical one, dedicated to working with the model and applying the knowledge received in the first part of the tutorial.
