Ubisoft has finally responded to player complaints about the Jabba the Hutt mission in Star Wars Outlaws, which requires purchasing the season pass to unlock.
In this mission, the main character Kay is tasked with completing a job for Jabba, as her droid companion, ND-5, owes a debt to the crime boss. However, the season pass is exclusively available through special editions, starting at $110, or with a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription.
Ubisoft clarified that players will encounter Jabba and his syndicate as part of the standard progression in the adventure, reiterating previous reports on this aspect.
"To clarify, Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel are one of the main syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws and will be part of the experience for everyone who purchases the game, regardless of edition," a Ubisoft spokesperson shared with IGN. "The 'Jabba’s Gambit' mission is an optional, additional mission with the Hutt Cartel along Kay and Nix's journey across the Outer Rim. This mission will be available to those who purchase the season pass or an edition of the game which includes the season pass."
While Ubisoft's response failed to ease player concerns, some felt the company was sidestepping actual issues regarding gating game content behind paid options. The high cost of the expanded editions also remains a source of frustration among users.
In light of this, some players referenced Larian Studio's approach to Baldur's Gate III, where the studio explicitly stated there would be no microtransactions or similar elements upon release. Fans suggested that the creators of the new Star Wars game should consider adopting similar principles.
