Don't Use This Bad Word in Overwatch 2 If You Don't Want to Get Suspended

It's hard not to swear when playing Overwatch 2, but you should really watch what you type in the chat if you want to continue enjoying the game.

A number of players have complained that their accounts were suspended for inappropriate language (via GamesRadar+.) In a competitive shooter, this could mean anything, but Blizzard elaborated under one of the comments, replying to the player that they were temporarily banned for profanity.

"Specifically liberal use of F-bombs in chat. Profanity isn't allowed in our games. Not explicitly, not abbreviated, not masked or misspelled."

So no, you can't use the word "f*ck" (please don't ban me) in Overwatch or other Blizzard games. "You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others," says the company's in-game code of conduct. "Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language." If you violate the rules, your account will be punished, so you can't say Blizzard hasn't warned you.

To help conceal unpleasant language, Overwatch 2 has a profanity filter, and this gives players the idea that it's fine to swear, but Blizzard says it is "for those who wish to use it, but profanity has never been allowed in our games. If reported, absolutely actionable."

While I'm not one of those toxic players, I can understand why people are frustrated with the bans. It seems like all bad language is prohibited, although I can totally imagine a situation when it can be innocent and not directed at anyone. I think the rule of thumb here is to avoid swearing or be nice about it because something tells me most of those suspended individuals deserved their sentences, whatever words they used. If you get banned for "Genji switch" and "uninstall", you probably weren't nice in that game.
