A New Set of Shaders & Tools For Making Rainy/Snowy Scenes in Unity

Vitaly Okulov's new snow and rain system has finally been launched.

3D Artist and Unreal/Unity Asset Developer Vitaly Okulov has released Weatherade, a highly-anticipated collection of tools and assets, first previewed back in September 2023, that lets you set up rainy and snowy scenes in Unity.

Compatible with the engine's built-in rendering pipeline, Weatherade includes two different sets of shaders for snow and rain scenes and features Cover Instance – a manager that lets you globally customize the appearance of scene surfaces and create a coverage occlusion mask. It also comes with a Traces feature, which allows you to interactively deform the snow cover, and a GPU Particle System, designed to create dense snowfall or rain effects, with the ability to remove particles upon impact with surfaces.

Features:

  • Snow Coverage shaders.
  • Rain Coverage shaders.
  • Terrain support.
  • Coverage Occlusion.
  • Snow Traces (deformable snow) with correct normals.
  • Displacement.
  • Custom Data-Driven Tessellation (supports terrain as well).
  • Snow subsurface scattering.
  • Snow sparkle.
  • Batch Shader Swapper – a tool for fast material conversion.
  • Total Brush (lite).
