Dr Disrespect used to be one of the most popular Twitch streamers, but if you don't know his story, I'll briefly explain what happened to him. In 2020, he was suddenly banned from the platform. The creator decided to sue the company and eventually settled with neither party admitting to any wrongdoing.
While Twitch bans are nothing new, the surprising part is that we still don't know why it happened, although fans mostly believe it's because Twitch didn't want to pay Dr Disrespect a sizeable sum of money. "Imagine the Navy going in there and getting rid of you, just out of nowhere," he once said, as pointed out by Dexerto. "And then bringing in three new cadets. Because you know what, they say ‘man, even though he’s going to turn Master Chief, that’s a big, huge salary."
Whatever the reason behind this ban, it was surely a difficult situation for Dr Disrespect, and he admits it in one of his recent videos, calling out Twitch in an imaginative way.
"When the purple snakes, and I mean slithery disgusting purple snakes, did what they did, banned the two-time [champion], that was tough," he said (via PC Gamer), "that was a tough time."
There was a lot of money in the partnership, which was lost when the two parted ways: "We had Nike, we were talking to Oakley, and that's no joke: I can bring up Oakley prototypes right here."
The event was traumatic for the creator, he was "in a spot that I hadn't been in before emotionally," and while it helped him release some great songs, it's not something you'd wish for yourself.
"It's no joke when people write songs because they're going through something and it adds to the quality and emotion of the song. I'm not saying I produce massive hits or whatever but y'know it's a lot easier to be able to put together some quality ideas for music when you're going through something that's tough."
So no, we still don't know for sure why Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch, but now we have a better idea of what he felt at the time and how it affected his life and well-being.
