Check Out This Stunning UE5 Forest Environment With Spooky Vibes

The goal of the project was to use as few textures as possible.

Today, let's visit a Strange Cabin Deep in the Forest, a highly-detailed 3D forest environment with an eerie and spooky atmosphere set up by a talented Senior Environment Artist at Krafton Europe, Elias Tsirides.

According to the creator, the project's main goal was to use as few textures as possible. To accomplish that, Elias utilized Megascans textures, which were rearranged and packed into two maps – one for the entire mixed conifer biome and one for the cabin and its paraphernalia. "All foliage assets use one atlas for the leaf/canopy parts and the trunks use a couple of tileable textures. The cabin and the surrounding structures and assets were made with a combined wood and rusty metal trim sheet," commented the author.

Besides Megascans, the artist also leveraged Maya to handle the modeling part and Unreal Engine 5 for lighting and rendering. Attached below are some of the renders shared by Elias:

The artist also offered a behind-the-scenes look at the scene's foliage and cabin assets:

Previously, Elias joined 80 Level to tell us more about making the Byzantine Ruins environment in Unreal Engine, discuss landscape generation, explain how the foliage was created, and share the lighting setup. You can read the full interview here.
