Closer Look at TMNT Mutant Mayhem Characters

Paulette Emerson and Christian Haniszewski shared their work on the famous turtles.

Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures released a teaser trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – an animated reboot of the series directed by Jeff Rowe. The movie launched on August 2 and has already brought millions of dollars to its creators.

Today, let's have a closer look at the characters in the film shared by Character Modeling Supervisor Christian Haniszewski and 3D Character Development Artist Paulette Emerson.

Haniszewski presented 3D visual development sculpts of the turtles made in ZBrush and rendered with Arnold. He used drawings and references from Justin Runfola and Woodrow White, working with Jeff Rowe on "figuring out how to convey the style into 3D space." As you can see, the results are fantastic:

Emerson then got an early pass on the turtles from him and, with help from Rowe, Production Designer Yashar Kassai, and Art Director Arthur Fong, decided to "pull out all the stops on this one." In my opinion, she succeeded, just have a look:

Emerson built 28 characters with ZBrush and helped develop the overall look and feel of the 3D character lineup. She calls this a "challenging but most rewarding project" and one she will never forget.

"I want to thank Ramsay McBean and the team at Nickelodeon Animation for giving me this amazing opportunity, but especially my viz dev crew. You guys were the best. Huge shout out to Tiffany Lam, our amazing co-art director, for all the support."
